Riviera Maya, located in the east cost of the Yucatan Peninsula in the state of Quintana Roo. Some of the most famous places to visit in Riviera Maya include Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Akumal, Puerto Aventuras, Isla de Mujeres, and Cozumel.
Playa del Carmen is one of the fastest developing cities in Mexico with 20% annual increase in population due to growing tourism. It is located about 50 km (40 min drive) from the Cancun International Airport. It has enchanting Mexican atmosphere which is artistic and unique, with boutique hotels and not sky-rise buildings making it distinctive from a metropolitan area like Cancun. At night, you can walk by the famous Quinta Avenida (5th Avenue) where you will find a great selection of restaurants, bars, coffee shops and boutiques.
Cozumel is an island off the coast of Playa del Carmen. Its coral reefs are unique and can be compared only with the reefs of Australia and Egypt. You will find a lot of interesting places to visit in Riviera Maya: Puerto Aventuras, only 20 km away from Playa del Carmen, is a tourist destination with its own marine and dolphin center. Charming Akumal, with its striking lagoons and archeological zone of Tulum, is only a short drive away. Several eco-parks are close to Playa del Carmen: Xcaret, Hel-Ha and Xplor, where you can visit cenotes, underground caves with crystal water, and experience a full range of family-friendly entertainment. Pyramids of Chitchen Itza have been declared the new Wonder of the World - you can experience it in person! |
